Monday Free Write 12/8

High: Ice skating today!
Low: I cut my finger on a dog food can.
Goal: Finish making Christmas cards for soldiers.
Question: If you could change 1 thing about the world, what would it be and why?

Letters About Literature

The poem I wrote about was Slow Dance by Amy Bruce. Amy Bruce is a girl about my age with cervical cancer. She wrote this poem in the hospital. Apparently she gave it to one of the doctors, who then posted it on the web. It goes like this:

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into a fading night?
You better slow down.
Don't dance too fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask How are you?
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance too fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say, "Hi"
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance too fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It's like an unopened gift...
Thrown away.
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

Late Monday Free Write

Okay, so it's Wednesday, but that doesn't mean it's too late to write my Monday question, right? So here it is: Why do so many people pay more attention to boy scouts than girl scouts? In my opinion, cookies are WAY better than popcorn. And why do boy scouts get to make commercials? I've never seen one advertising girl scout stuff!

Question of the Week

What do you think the majority of US
citizens are most afraid of? Why?
What are YOU most afraid of?

Personal Reflection

HIGH OF MY WEEK: I might have a sleep over with my friend that lives in Mt. Vernon on the weekend!
LOW: I have to draw 2 big maps and 1 little map of Washington state for social studies by December 3rd!
QUESTION: If there are so many hungry people in the world, why doesn't the government do more about it? Also, if people keep telling me to make the most out of my day and do the most I can with it, then why are we in school for 8 hours a day?!?!
GOAL: My goal for the week is to find a soup kitchen and take my girl scout troop there to help!

Yellow Jounalism

A few days ago in my Social Studies class, we were watching the election news on TV, and they were showing the current percents of the voting polls. They said something like the democrats having 51% and the republicans having 29%, but Mr. Tupper said that they were lying and that it was actually a tie with 28% to 28%. That's my best example of yellow journalism.

Halloween was awesome! I went trick or treating with my friend and she said that she was doing "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" play too! It was really weird doing the play in my Zelda costume, but at least I had pointy alien ears!

As I'm getting ready for Halloween I start to think how fun it would be to dress up in our costumes and write a short horror story about the things we're dressed up as! Like we could all break up into small groups and be the characters. Or it would be pretty awesome if we drew pictures and then read them at the childrens' library to the little kids.

Okay, today was really weird. In English class we did part of a short skit called "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" and the sound effects were hilarious! Also, everyone started out with a normal voice, but slowly gained southern accents. I didn't have a part, but that's okay with me. I'm really bad at public speaking. Even in front of my friends, unless I have a mask on (but it has to be an awesome mask).

OK here's a question I thought of earlier today: If you make a time machine and went 4 years back in time, would you stay the same age or would you be 4 years younger? Also, if you built it 2 months ago and go back 5 years ago, would the time machine still be with you? Wouldn't you have to wait 5 more years until you finally had it back? If you know the answer, please respond, cause I'm totally lost.

HIGH OF MY WEEK: My brother turned 9 yesterday!!!
LOW OF MY WEEK: I have a HUGE social studies report due this Friday and I've never had to work this hard before!!! I NEED MY SLEEP, PEOPLE!!!
GOAL FOR THE FUTURE: A few years ago, I was trick or treating and someone in a gorilla suit jumped out at me! I screamed and hit him with my bag of candy (just before I got in trouble). My goal is to not do that. Also I'm going to use the word "awesome" in every single post on my blog. That would be pretty awesome.

ABOUT ME!!!
The first thing you should know about me is that I LOVE tacos!!! Especially from Jack in the Box. I have brown eyes and shoulder length blondish hair (it's also kind of brown, so I'm not sure what to call it). In my free time, I like to draw, write, swim, read, and on the weekends I play video games. These are some other things you should know:
-PURPLE IS AWESOME!

-I draw this little cat named Link and my goal is to somehow make him famous before I grow up.
-Candy is good, but not as good as tacos.
-I need a sister. A twin, or at least someone my age.
-I can't stand Pokemon.
-I have 2 rats, my big brother has 2 rats, and my little brother has 2 mice. We also have a dog, cat, and a hecka lota fishes. We used to have a hamster. They are all awesome.

Woo hoo!!!
This is my 1st entry for my new blog! Yesss! It's specifically for English class, so what I like most about English class is
this blog. Aside from that, I LOVE to write short stories and draw pictures in them for little kids. It is totally awesome.
